In 1975, President Gerald R. Ford escaped an attempt on his life by Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, a disciple of Charles Manson, in Sacramento, California. Ford was on his way to the State Capitol Building for a meeting with Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. when Fromme pointed a loaded gun at the president before a Secret Service agent grabbed it.
